2014 IPEC Institute on Quality Improvement and Patient Safety

The 2014 Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) Institute on quality improvement and patient safety (agenda here) wrapped up on January 15 in Herndon, VA with two sessions featuring public health perspectives. A team of five from ASPPH-member University of New England (UNE), organized by Dr. Dora Anne Mills, vice president for clinical affairs and director of Public Health Programs, presented on Shared Learning at Points of Care. The presentation featured the experiences of two students: (pictured) Ms. Michelle O’Meara, a fourth year pharmacy student and Mr. Michael Light, a fourth year medical student, who reported on their initial lack of interest in interprofessional learning followed by their growing understanding of the value of this approach in preparing them to function more effectively in practice. The team was joined by Dr. Shelley Cohen-Konrad, a social worker faculty member and director of interprofessional education at UNE and Dr. Karen Pardue, a nurse and associate dean of the Westbrook College of Health Professions at UNE.
