ASPPH offers recent graduates from ASPPH-member, Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH)-accredited Schools and Programs of Public Health an opportunity to gain practical global health experience, specializing in HIV surveillance, at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). CDC is providing new funds to support a cohort of ASPPH/CDC Allan Rosenfield Global HIV Surveillance Fellows who will work under the guidance of CDC mentors to help implement HIV Impact Assessment surveys in PEPFAR long term strategy countries. Implementation of these population-based household surveys is a priority for the Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator, with CDC providing leadership. This is an exciting opportunity for graduates of ASPPH member institutions to assist CDC in important research that is part of a high priority initiative.

Applications are currently being accepted for the 2015 ASPPH/CDC Allan Rosenfield Global HIV Surveillance Fellowship Program; the deadline to apply is Thursday, October 23. Fellows will be based in their assigned countries with frequent travel in country, and communicate frequently with DGHA Atlanta about the planning and implementation of the population-based survey.  (Please see the Fellowship Announcement for a list of possible fellowship country locations.)  The fellowship positions are full-time opportunities for a one-year period beginning in March 2015. The fellowship may be extended for an additional year, pending available funding and mutual agreement by the fellow, CDC, and ASPPH. To qualify for this fellowship, candidates must have received their masters or doctorate degrees from an ASPPH-member, CEPH-accredited, school or program of public health within the last five years and also be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (Green Card). Preference will be given to doctoral candidates. For this cycle only, Doctoral candidates who have completed all degree requirements except their dissertation will be considered, provided they will receive their degree by August 2015. Strong candidates will have knowledge of epidemiologic concepts and experience in data analysis and project management, as well as demonstrated cross-cultural competence.
