Researchers from Boston University School of Public Health, Boston University School of Medicine, and Boston Medical Center have found that high-risk travelers account for nearly 20 percent of patients using the five clinics of the Boston Area Travel Medicine Network. The study, which appears online in Mayo Clinic Proceedings, also found that these travelers often visited destinations with malaria and typhoid risk. Led by Dr. Natasha Hochberg, assistant professor of epidemiology at the School of Public Health and assistant professor of medicine at the School of Medicine, the study is one of the first to provide information on high-risk travelers that includes demographic characteristics and health status.
