The Epidemiology and statistics interest group of the ADA annually awards a prize for the best epidemiologic abstract submitted to the meeting in honor of Dr. Michaela Modan, who was a leading Israeli epidemiologist. The abstract, “Maternal glucose mediates the association between maternal BMI and neonatal adiposity: The Healthy Start Study” was presented by Ms. Alison Buti, a PhD student with Dr. Dana Dabelea, principal investigator of the Healthy Start Study. Other team members included Dr. Sarah Schmiege, biostatistics and informatics, Dr. Tessa L. Crume, epidemiology, and Dr. Jacob (Jed) Friedman, pediatrics, School of Medicine. Dr. Carolyn Fox, chair of the interest group, presented the prize of $1,000 and a plaque to the team.
