Dr. Claire Edington, an October 2013 graduate of the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health’s Center for the History and Ethics of Public Health, was named recipient of the Jack D. Pressman-Burroughs Wellcome Fund Career Development Award in twentieth Century History of Medicine or Biomedical Sciences. The award, presented by the American Association for the History of Medicine (AAHM) is given for an outstanding dissertation and a proposal to become a publishable monograph. The title of Dr. Edington’s dissertation is “Beyond the Asylum: Colonial Psychiatry in French Indochina, 1880–1940”. Dr. Edington received her PhD from the Mailman School’s department of sociomedical sciences and Columbia’s history department.
