Dr. Marina Catallozzi, assistant professor of Population and Family Health, and Dr. Karen Soren, associate professor of Population and Family Health at the Mailman School of Public Health, were named a Best Doctor 2015 in the current issue of New York Magazine. Administered by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., results are based on a peer-review survey of physicians who are asked to nominate the best in their field in terms of professional qualifications, reputations, and skills in dealing with patients.

Both Dr. Catallozzi, and Dr. Soren are Adolescent Medicine specialists. Dr. Catallozzi was cited for her work in sexually transmitted diseases, adolescent gynecology, and her work in HIV/AIDS in adolescents. Dr. Soren’s specialties are adolescent gynecology, behavioral disorders, and chronic illness.
Dr. Catallozzi, who is also an assistant professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University Medical Center is board certified in both Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. She served as the medical director of the Lang Youth Medical Program, a six-year science enrichment and mentoring program for 7th through 12th grade students in the medical center’s surrounding community from 2006 to 2014. Dr. Catallozzi is the co-leader of the Sexuality, Sexual and Reproductive Health Certificate at the Mailman School and the director of the General Public Health Program, the largest accelerated MPH program at Mailman. She has extensive expertise in the field of qualitative research. Her research interests include relationship choices of adolescent females, adolescent relationship violence, adolescent and parent communication and decision-making in clinical trial participation. Dr. Catallozzi joined Columbia in 2006 after serving as the medical director of the Adolescent AIDS Program at Montefiore Medical Center.
Dr. Soren is also an associate professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University Medical Center and board certified in Adolescent Medicine. Involved in the clinical care of teenagers since 1988, she has served as the director of Adolescent Medicine at New York Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital since 1995. In addition to building a comprehensive Adolescent Medicine practice at Columbia University Medical Center, she is responsible for the creation of the Adolescent Medicine residency experience at Columbia and the Adolescent Medicine Fellowship, of which she is program director. Dr. Soren has received grants to fund clinical research in adolescent chronic illness, contraception, depression, obesity and diabetes prevention, medical education, and adolescent vaccinations.
