Columbia Finds Mental Health Professionals Hold Stereotypes of Those with Psychiatric Illness

Although their attitudes are more positive than the general public, a significant number of mental health professionals would be unwilling to live near or work with someone who has an untreated psychiatric disorder, especially schizophrenia, according to researchers at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. Findings are online in Psychiatric Services, a publication of the American Psychiatric Association.
