Columbia Leads Evaluation of Intervention for Protecting Children in Emergencies

Child Friendly Spaces (CFS) is an intervention frequently used by humanitarian agencies for supporting and protecting children in emergencies, but until recently there had been little study or evidence of the impact of these interventions. To develop a system of standards and guidelines and to document the program’s effectiveness, Dr. Alastair Ager, professor of clinical population and family health at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, and the humanitarian organization World Vision International began a series of structured evaluations. Their report presents findings from the CFS program for Somali refugees in Buramino Camp in southern Ethiopia.
