ICAP has established a new training program that will prepare promising individuals for careers in interdisciplinary research. The program will focus on how to implement effective HIV prevention, care, and treatment modalities to maximize health outcomes and impact. The program is supported by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases division of NIH.

The Research Training Program on Global HIV Implementation Science will utilize the dynamic training environment of ICAP and the Mailman School’s department of epidemiology. Trainees will work with a diverse team of 26 faculty mentors, who will guide them through coursework based on individualized training plans and hands-on research experiences in a variety of domestic and international settings.

Led by Dr. Andrea Howard, director of the clinical and training unit at ICAP, and associate professor of Epidemiology, the research training program will work to increase the number of independent investigators who are able to study approaches for promoting the integration of research findings and evidence-based interventions into health care policy and practice.

“This is an exciting opportunity to train the next generation of HIV researchers,” said Dr. Howard. “Trainees will not only learn how to rigorously test interventions, but also how to evaluate the impact of bringing those interventions to scale.”

The five-year program will begin this fall and support three pre-doctoral trainees and two post-doctoral trainees.
