ICAP is partnering with the Ministry of Health in Ethiopia to strengthen malaria diagnosis capacity at health laboratories and case management in five regions. Funded by the President’s Malaria Initiative through USAID, the project is addressing critical gaps in diagnosis and promoting appropriate treatment for malaria to support control and prevention programs.

ICAP trains laboratory workers, provides medical supplies, conducts supportive supervision, and conducts external quality assessment. These efforts have contributed to Ethiopia’s great strides in malaria testing coverage and increased diagnosis which include:

• Increasing confirmed malaria cases from 39 percent to over 84 percent.
• Expanding malaria coverage from 69 health facilities in one region to 790 health facilities in five regions.
• Training over 2,500 laboratory personnel and over 2,700 health workers.
