In recognition of World AIDS Day, ICAP hosted a special event, “Politics, People, and the AIDS Epidemic” on December 2 to commemorate World AIDS Day. This included a film screening of the widely acclaimed “And the Band Played On” about the first years of the AIDS epidemic in the U.S. and the political infighting that hampered early efforts to contain the virus. Based on the book by Mr. Randy Shilts published 20 years ago, the movie framed how AIDS was understood and discussed going forward. Following the film, Dr. El-Sadr, ICAP director, led a panel discussion with invited guests.
