As snacking accounts for up to 27 percent of children's daily caloric intake, and childhood obesity has been linked to inadequate intake of fruits and vegetables, innovative interventions promoting positive dietary behaviors are needed to engage youth living in a multi-media environment. A recent pilot study has highlighted the potential promise of using Manga comics (Japanese comic art) to promote such behaviors. The study titled “Manga comic influences snack selection in Black and Hispanic New York City youth” was led by Dr. May May Leung, assistant professor of nutrition at the City University of New York School of Public Health and published online in the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior.
