There is a paucity of studies on psychosocial disorders in clinic populations in Jamaica. Therefore, Dr. Pauline E. Jolly, professor in the department of epidemiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham – along with department colleague Dr. Olivia Affuso, associate professor; Dr. Michelle Y. Martin, associate professor in the division of preventive medicine; and Ms. Cara Monroe, previously an MSPH epidemiology student at UAB (currently at Loma Linda University) – sought to determine the prevalence and correlates of symptoms of depression and anxiety in a clinic population in western Jamaica.
