Dr. Hadii Mamudu, an expert in international tobacco policy, in the department of health services management and policy, has published an article on tobacco control policymaking in a tobacco-growing state. Along with East Tennessee current and former students, as well as colleagues from UCSF, Dr. Mamudu analyzed how the third largest tobacco producer in the United States, Tennessee, enacted the Non-Smoker Protection Act (NSPA) in 2007. Using a multiple streams model, the team interviewed the key stakeholders, and reviewed legislative debates and archival documents. The article was published in the December, 27, 2013 edition of the Journal of Community Health.
