Dr. Megan Quinn, assistant professor in the department of biostatistics and epidemiology in the East Tennessee State University College of Public Health, was honored with the Young Alumna Award for Wesleyan College during its annual Alumnae Weekend 2015.

Dr. Quinn is a 2005 alumna of Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia.  While there, she earned her undergraduate degree in psychology while serving as captain of the soccer team, president of Mortar Board, lead orientation advisor, and participant in the Summer Leadership Institute.  The program for Alumnae Weekend 2015 states, “In just ten years, Megan Quinn ’05 has realized what for some would be a lifetime of professional achievements…Megan’s professional accomplishments and her contributions to her community come as no surprise to those who knew her as a Red Pirate ’05.”

Prior to seeking graduate education, Dr. Quinn returned to Wesleyan as head soccer coach and director of student activities.  Dr. Quinn earned her MSc in public health research from the University of Edinburgh College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine and then her DrPH in epidemiology from East Tennessee State University’s College of Public Health.

Dr. Quinn was honored for her public health initiatives around the world including the countries of Haiti, South Africa and Nicaragua as well as her service to her own community in her capacity as grants chair for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Tri-Cities Tennessee Affiliate and as childhood cancer chair for the Northeast Tennessee Region of the Tennessee Comprehensive Cancer Coalition.  Her professional achievements include journal articles, professional publications, presentations, and grant support from the East Tennessee State University Research Development Committee. As a member of the College of Public Health faculty, she has been honored with the Faculty Service Award and with Dean’s Recognition for her work on the Recruitment and Retention Task Force.

When asked about the award, Dr. Quinn said, “As an undergraduate student at Wesleyan College I never imagined that I would qualify to be nominated for this award. There are so many wonderful, unique, and inspiring women who attended Wesleyan and I am unbelievably grateful to have been nominated and selected for the Wesleyan College Young Alumnae Award this year.  The entire experience has been surreal!”
