The Florida Public Health Association (FPHA) honored two students from Florida International University Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work with awards at the statewide organization’s annual education conference.

Doctoral student Mr. Chintan Bhatt received the FPHA’s Graduate Student Scholarship for his outstanding achievements at Florida International’s Department of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. His research includes biomedical prevention of HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, adolescent and sexual health. He is actively involved in the FPHA and the American Public Health Association (APHA) through elected positions.
Master’s student Mr. Islam Khalil won the FPHA’s Most Informative Poster Presentation for his research work titled, “Pesticide Exposure in Farm Workers in Florida.” Mr. Islam is in his second year at Florida International’s Department of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention; he’s performing his practicum with the U.S. Southern Command’s Public Health Division, and plans to work for a federal agency like SOUTHCOM after graduation.
