Dr. Bernard Okech, research assistant professor in the University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions’ department of environmental and global health, has been investigating malaria transmission in Haiti in collaboration with the Haiti Ministry of Health (Ministère de la Santé Publique et de la Population, or MSPP). Dr. Okech’s research group has focused their studies on anti-malarial drug resistance, Anopheles mosquito ecology and innate resistance factors to malaria in humans, such as G6PD deficiency and sickle cell anemia. Dr. Okech’s research is based at several clinics in the Sud Est and Ouest departments.
