INSP Mexico Reports New Findings in HIV Epidemic in Mexico

Researchers from the Center for Evaluation Research and Surveys (CIEE, acronym in Spanish) at the Mexican National Institute of Public Health (INSP) found the prevalence of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) among the population of men who have sex with men (MSM) is 16.9 percent in a nationally representative survey. This result is higher than had been previously described by official documents. The HIV sero-prevalence survey in MSM meeting places in Mexico, funded by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, yielded new results on HIV sero-prevalence in this population across the country, as published in PLOS ONE on September 6, 2013.
