An international study led by researchers from the University of Maryland School of Public Health and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health shows that the majority of children are unaware that cigarette package warning labels exist. The study, led by Dr. Dina Borzekowski, in the University of Maryland School of Public Health, and Dr. Joanna Cohen, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, showed that only 38 percent of children had any awareness of warning labels currently being featured on cigarette packages, and even after showing warning labels to participating children, approximately two-thirds of the children were unable to explain what the health warnings were about.
