Iowa Rural Health Association Honors Iowa Faculty

Dr. Kelley Donham, University of Iowa professor emeritus of occupational and environmental health, was recently honored by the Iowa Rural Health Association as the 2013 Jerry Karbeling Award recipient. This annual award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated successful activism for improving rural health and a commitment to community service. Dr. Donham has had a long and distinguished career in agricultural health and safety. He joined the faculty of The University of Iowa in 1973, achieving the rank of full professor in 1984. His research has focused on diseases of agricultural workers, particularly respiratory diseases, zoonotic infectious diseases, and intervention methods of prevention. He conducted the original studies of air quality and respiratory illnesses in workers and swine and poultry in animal housing. He has published extensively, including co-authoring the textbook, “Agricultural Medicine: Occupational and Environmental Health for the Health Professions”.
