As the U.S. prepares to expand health insurance coverage and launch state-based insurance exchanges as part of the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, a report published by University of Maryland School of Public Health scholars suggests that many consumers lack an adequate level of health insurance literacy, or the necessary information and understanding to make optimal decisions about health insurance.
