Dr. Richard Hirth, health management and policy professor and associate chair at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, has been awarded AcademyHealth’s Health Services Research Impact Award for work that helped develop a prospective payment system for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid for patients with end stage renal disease. The system Dr. Hirth developed is used to improve patient choice and quality of care, as well as potentially reduce cost.
