Michigan Professor Honored by PAHO/WHO

The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) honored Dr. Ken Warner, Avedis Donabedian Distinguished University Professor of Public Health and professor of health policy and management at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, at the 2014 World No Tobacco Day awards June 2 in recognition of innovative and influential research contributions, particularly on the economics of tobacco and tobacco control. Dr. Warner’s seminal work in the 1970s on the impact of tobacco control policies in the U.S. demonstrated that higher cigarette taxes, anti-smoking advertising, and restrictions on smoking led to significant reductions in cigarette consumption and smoking prevalence. Warner has inspired a number of young economists to pursue careers in research on the economics of tobacco control.
