Michigan Study Finds Obese Children at Greater Risk of Complications from Falls

A new University of Michigan study found that for obese children, a simple fall may result in serious elbow injuries and greater complications after surgery than children of a normal weight. These children are at greater risk of bone, joint, and nerve damage that may result in long-term health problems. The study is a collaboration between Dr. Joel Gagnier, assistant professor of epidemiology, and his colleagues from the University of Michigan Health System. The results are published in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery.
