Michigan Study: New Gene Finding Approach Discovers Gene Linked to Heart Attack Risk Factor

Researchers have discovered a gene variation that makes humans have healthier blood lipid levels and reduces risk of heart attacks. This finding could be used in testing or treatment of high cholesterol and other lipid disorders. The multidisciplinary research team, which included Dr. Michael Boehnke, Richard G. Cornell Distinguished University Professor of Biostatistics and Goncalo Abecasis, the Felix E. Moore Collegiate Professor of Biostatistics, and colleagues from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, published their findings in Nature Genetics.
