Minnesota Researchers Find Disparities in Health Insurance Coverage for Same-Sex Partners

Men and women in same-sex relationships experience disparities in health insurance coverage across the United States, according to new research from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. Findings from the study indicate living in a state that recognizes legal same-sex marriage, civil unions, or broad domestic partnerships may improve access to employee-sponsored insurance (ESI) for same-sex spouses and domestic partners. The study, conducted by University of Minnesota researchers Mr. Gilbert Gonzales, PhD candidate, and Dr. Lynn Blewett, professor, appears this month in the American Journal of Public Health.
