Two professors in the MPH program at the Brown School, Washington University in St. Louis, have been named by Thompson Reuters as among the most influential scientists in the world.

The report, “The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds,” named Dr. Ross C. Brownson, professor and director of the Prevention Research Center; and Dr. Matthew W. Kreuter, professor and associate dean for public health at the Brown School.

They were among 3,200 researchers who published the greatest number of highly cited papers from 2002-2012. Highly cited papers rank in the top 1% by citations for their field and year of publication.

The report said their list represented “people who are on the cutting edge of their fields. They are performing and publishing work that their peers recognize as vital to the advancement of their science.”

Dr. Brownson is a leading expert in chronic disease prevention and an expert in the area of applied epidemiology.  He is regarded as one of the intellectual, educational, and practice leaders in the field of evidence-based public health.

Dr. Kreuter is a leading national expert in the field of health communication. The founder of the Health Communication Research Laboratory, he has developed a wide range of health communication programs and products with a focus on eliminating health disparities.
