Dr. John J. Lowe, assistant professor of environmental, agricultural, and occupational health at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Public Health, recently received the Michigan Industrial Hygiene Society’s (MIHS) Best Paper Award. Dr. Lowe’s paper, “Decontamination of a Hospital Room Using Gaseous Chlorine Dioxide: Bacillus anthracis, Francisella tularensis, and Yersinia pestis,” appeared in the October 2013 Journal of Occupational and Environmental Health.  The MIHS Best Paper Award was established by MIHS in 1957 to recognize outstanding publication in the field of industrial hygiene.  Criteria for selection includes the importance of work to the Industrial Hygiene (IH) profession, such as evaluating how well the knowledge contributes new information to the recognition, evaluation and control of an IH issue, or if the knowledge addresses an IH problem poorly recognized or of current interest, and how well the study results can be used to reduce health risks.  Dr. Lowe’s paper was selected from over 200 papers.  He was presented the award in June at the American Industrial Hygiene Conference and Exhibition in San Antonio.
