New CDC Blog: Predicting Community Resilience and Recovery After a Disaster

Read CDC’s new Public Health Matters blog Predicting community resilience and recovery after a disaster that features COPEWELL (Composite of Post-Event Well-Being), a project that will fundamentally change the way communities think about and plan for disasters. CDC, in collaboration with the Johns Hopkins Center for Public Health Preparedness and University of Delaware Disaster Research Center, is developing a mathematical model that will enable community planners to identify the domains of community functioning that must be preserved throughout a disaster. This model will allow state and local responders to develop plans that can prevent the degradation of community services in a disaster and to plan for the rapid restoration of services.
