Mr. Albert Wright will become the next president and CEO of West Virginia University Hospitals. In addition to holding a Master of Health Administration (2000), he is also a trained pharmacist. Mr. Wright said his education at Ohio State provided him with a strong educational foundation and the confidence to believe he can succeed at the highest levels of the profession.
“The diversity of my fellow students helped open my mind to different points of view and catalyzed my development toward becoming a humble, servant leader.”
The hospital leadership and board of directors have ambitious plans for growth. Mr. Wright said he intends to help execute that vision to make sure WVU Healthcare is truly exceptional at caring for patients, and is prepared for the health care models of the future.
“I think it is a very exciting time to be a health care professional,” Mr. Wright said. “If I were a current student I would definitely focus on being flexible, learning to be a good teammate, and finding mentors willing to help foster my successful development.”
Mr. Wright’s gratitude for the opportunities made available to him through Ohio State led him to join the fundraising committee for the William O. Cleverley Scholarship in Health Services Management and Policy, created to honor the emeritus professor and health care leader for which it is named.
Mr. Wright currently serves as the vice president for operations at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Presbyterian Shadyside, and will take on his new rule at West Virginia University Hospitals August 11.
