Oregon State University College of Public Health and Human Sciences kinesiology assistant professor, Dr. Sam Logan, has been selected as a 2017 Dr. Art Broten Young Scholar Award recipient by the Western Society for Kinesiology and Wellness (WSKW).

“I’m very honored to receive this award, especially because two of our current kinesiology faculty – Dr. Brad Cardinal, professor of social psychology of physical activity and Dr. Vicki Ebbeck, associate dean for student success are past recipients of the award.”

Dr. Cardinal received the award in 1990 and Dr. Ebbeck in 1993.

Dr. Logan will receive the award during the organization’s annual conference, which will be held October 11 – 13 in Reno, Nevada. He will also be presenting his white paper ­_­­that was submitted for the award. “The Right to Mobility: Modified Ride-On Cars for Exploration and Play” provides an overview of existing research that has examined the effect of modified ride-on car use for young children with disabilities to use for exploration and play.

Dr. Logan and Oregon State researchers recently received media attention for two new additions to ride-on toy car designs produced by the Go Baby Go program. The program, which is a national, community-based-design and outreach program providing modified ride-on cars to children birth to age 3 who experience limited mobility, recently added the sit-to-stand version and Throw Baby Throw to its stock of modified toy cars.

Go Baby Go, which was created in 2012 at the University of Delaware, was started at Oregon State under Dr. Logan’s direction in 2014.
