Dr. Cristine D. Delnevo,  professor in the department of social and behavioral health sciences and director of the Center for Tobacco Studies, has been named as the vice dean of the Rutgers School of Public Health. Dr. Delnevo served as the chair of her department from 2010 to 2017 and as Rutger’s Interim Dean from March 2016 to this July. She also serves as co-leader of the Cancer Prevention & Control Program at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. She is a tobacco control researcher with specific expertise in tobacco control regulatory science, and non-cigarette tobacco products, and has served as a PI on over 10 NIH grants.

As vice dean, Dr. Delnevo will oversee research and faculty affairs at Rutgers. She will provide visionary leadership to expand the School’s research portfolio, while growing the Rutger’s faculty and centers/institutes. Dr. Delnevo will further develop and oversee a robust mentoring program for junior faculty that she began during her time as interim dean. She will also expand the School’s research office with a specific emphasis on pre-award support.

Dr. Perry N. Halkitis, dean of the Rutgers School of Public Health, announced the appointment in May. “We are grateful that Dr. Delnevo has agreed to take on the momentous task of overseeing the research and faculty affairs operations at our School,” Dr. Halkitis said. “Her experience as a well-funded researcher and expert in tobacco control and tobacco product regulatory science will help grow and maintain our School’s diverse and expansive research portfolio.”

Dr. Delnevo is an alumnae of Rutgers College, has been with the Rutgers School of Public Health since its inception, and has over 25 years with Rutgers University.
