Saint Louis Examines Barriers to Telemedicine Adoption by Health Care Organizations

Barriers to telemedicine in the U.S. are crumbling, making it possible for health care networks and organizations to adopt and make it a viable part of health care services. The key to telemedicine success in the future is to view telemedicine as an integral part of health care services and not a stand-alone project. These findings came from a study led by Dr. Cynthia LeRouge, associate professor of health management and policy at the Saint Louis University College for Public Health and Social Justice, and Dr. Monica Garfield, associate professor of computer information systems at Bentley University.  Their study canvassed recent trends related to technology, financing, reimbursement, business strategy, and human resources, as well as, U.S. health reform activities, which help to break down telemedicine barriers.
