SDSU Graduates its Public Health Largest Cohort

On Saturday, May 13, the Graduate School of Public Health at San Diego State University held its commencement ceremony at Viejas Arena. The night before the School celebrates its 250 graduates at the Missions Trails Regional Park. The graduates were joined with their family members and faculty. Director Dr. Hala Madanat spoke to the graduates and reminded that regardless of what brought them to public health, they are coming to the field at a crucial moment. That this is the time for public health professionals to unite in their stance that health for all is fundamental human right.

The evening also included recognizing graduating students. First, the school recognized its student Council led by president Francis Floresca for receiving over $70K to support a distinguished lecture series that featured several notable speakers including Mr. Patrick Kennedy and live streaming these events to the community and the GSPH alumni. The event also recognized the School’s Outstanding Student and the John J. Hanlon Award winner, Ms. Jennifer Cossaboon of the Division of Environment Health. The school also honored Ms. Erin Wardlaw of the Division of Health Promotion and Behavioral Science with the Mariana Inez Churchill Award for Public Health Nursing.
