SUNY Albany Preparedness Initiatives

The New York New Jersey PERLC (NY-NJ PERLC), a collaboration of the Schools of Public Health at the University at Albany SUNY and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) provides a combination of in-person and distance-based training to the public health workforce in both states. Recent NY-NJ PERLC accomplishments include “Culturally Competent Brainstorm: Incorporating Traditional Latino Core Cultural Constructs into Public Health Messaging and Planning” training presented at the National Preparedness Summit and later webcast as part of the New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH) Medical Counter Measures monthly Clinic Operations webinar series. In-person training highlights include the development and delivery of the Sullivan County Public Health Services Special Needs Table Top Exercise, sponsorship of the Ninth Annual GIS and Public Health Day presentation entitled GIS in Emergency Response: Sandy and Beyond, and a two day Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication training offered in collaboration with partners from the CDC, the NYS DOH, and the National Public Health Information Coalition.
