Texas A&M Professor Leads National Evaluation of Chronic Disease Self-Management Classes

A recent study of more than 1,000 persons from all over the United States validated earlier findings that a six week self-management workshop assisted people with chronic conditions in having fewer symptoms, better role functioning, less depression, and better health care communication with their doctors. The study published in the Journal of Aging and Health was led by Dr. Marcia G. Ory, Regents and Distinguished Professor at the Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Rural Public Health. Collaborators were Dr. Kate Lorig from the Stanford University School of Medicine and Dr. Nancy Whitelaw from the National Council on Aging.
