Dr. Jane Bolin, professor at the Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Rural Public Health, recently accepted an invitation to serve on the “Transforming Texas” initiative Leadership Team for the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). DSHS was awarded a grant from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for this initiative aimed at preventing chronic diseases in high risk areas of the state of Texas. The grant has helped fund work with various rural and border communities in developing best practices for health care that can minimize chronic illness, such as obesity and cardiovascular disease.
