Tulane Professor Honored for 40 Years of Bogalusa Heart Study

Dr. Gerald Berenson, founder of the landmark Bogalusa Heart Study and professor of epidemiology at the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, has recently received two awards recognizing his longstanding commitment to excellence. Most recently, Mr. Charles Mizell, mayor of the City of Bogalusa, honored Berenson with the key to the city. The golden ceremonial key was bestowed at a ribbon cutting ceremony for the study’s new location. At the event, Mayor Mizell talked about what the heart study has meant and continues to mean to the people of Bogalusa, especially the participants who have remained committed to it for over 40 years.
