UAB Distinguished Professor Is Elected Fellow of New York Academy of Medicine

Dr. David B. Allison, distinguished professor and director of both the Office of Energetics and National Institutes of Health-funded Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, has been elected a Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM), which addresses the health challenges facing the world’s urban populations through interdisciplinary approaches to innovative research, policy leadership, evaluation, education, and community engagement. Dr. Allison joins an elite group of Fellows from across the professions—such as urban health, science, social work, nursing, education, law, medicine, and research—who share NYAM’s goal to create environments in cities that support healthy aging; to strengthen systems that prevent disease and promote the public’s health; to eliminate health disparities; and to preserve and promote the heritage of medicine and public health. Dr. Allison is known for his work in obesity, nutrition, statistical methods, and academic leadership and mentoring.
