UAB Evaluates Hypertension Prediction Model in Young Adults

Approximately 30 percent of adults in the United States have prehypertension and an increased risk of developing hypertension. Dr. April P. Carson, assistant professor, and Dr. Paul Muntner, professor, in the department of epidemiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, recently sought to determine the short-term predictive ability of the Framingham Heart Study (FHS) hypertension risk prediction model in a cohort of young adults advancing into middle age, comparing it with the predictive ability of prehypertension alone and individual components of the FHS model.
