UAB Team Investigates Possible Link between Duration of Sleep and Incidence of Breast Cancer

Dr. Emily Vogtmann, recent graduate from the department of epidemiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Dr. Emily B. Levitan, assistant professor in the department of epidemiology, and colleagues Dr. James M. Shikany, professor, and Dr. Cora E. Lewis, professor in the division of preventive medicine, recently conducted a prospective cohort study to determine whether the duration of sleep, sleep quality, insomnia, or sleep disturbance was associated with incident breast cancer in the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) conducted in the United States.
