UAlbany’s Center for Public Health Continuing Education (CPHCE) won a Bronze award in the 37th Annual Telly Awards late last month.

The Center won for its September, 2016, Public Health Live program, “Infectious Disease: Recognize and Report!” in the category of TV Shows/Segments (Public Interest/Awareness). More than 13,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries entered the competition.

Public Health Live is a monthly webcast produced by CPHCE on a variety of public health issues. The September show covered existing and emerging infectious diseases such as Hepatitis C and Zika, and diseases that can affect multiple species, such as influenza and rabies.

The Telly Awards honor outstanding local, regional and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and online commercials, video and films. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators and corporate video departments in the world.

Public Health Live’s production team is led by producer Mr. John Yost, a media production specialist at CPHCE as well as a filmmaker and multimedia artist with an MFA (2011) from UAlbany. The webcast is coordinated by Lynne Greabell, who also coordinates webinars for CPHCE.

“Being recognized by the Telly Awards for our work is truly an honor and reflects the high quality of this cutting-edge program to support the public health workforce in New York state and the nation,” said CPHCE Director Dawn Bleyenburg.

The winning program was hosted by moderator Ms. Rachel Breidster, who interviewed two guest speakers: Dr. Roger Ellis, a field veterinarian with the state Department of Agriculture and Markets, and Ms. Jennifer Ryan, a nurse in the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Section of St. Peter’s Hospital. Discussion focused on the need for health care partners to coordinate response to outbreaks, including ensuring that providers are updated on emerging infectious disease threats and have a standardized reporting approach.

CPHCE is nationally known for its distance learning training, including Public Health Live and numerous interactive, self-paced online courses. This is Public Health Live’s seventh Telly award.
