A new clinical scoring system developed by researchers from University of Georgia College of Public Health, Seoul National University, and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, can predict the likelihood that a patient will survive an in-hospital cardiac arrest. The findings were published online in JAMA Internal Medicine on September 9, 2013. In-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) is common in the inpatient setting. In one study of 13,400 patients admitted over two years at a teaching hospital, approximately 2.5 percent experienced an episode of IHCA.
