UIC Faculty Win Best Paper for Registry Management

Dr. Bridget J. McCarthy and Dr. Therese A. Dolecek, both of the epidemiology and biostatistics division at the UIC School of Public Health, won the Best Paper of 2013 in the Journal of Registry Management.  Their paper, titled “The Impact of the Benign Brain Tumor Cancer Registries Amendment Act  (Public Law 107-260) on Non-Malignant Brain and Central Nervous System Tumor Incidence Trends”, was chosen by the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA).

Cancer registrars are data information specialists that capture a complete history, diagnosis, treatment, and health status for every cancer patient in the U.S. The data provide essential information to researchers, healthcare providers, and public health officials to better monitor and advance cancer treatments, conduct research, and improve cancer prevention and screening programs.

Drs. McCarthy and Dolecek received the award on May 18, at the Annual Meeting of the NCRA in Nashville, TN.
