Dr. Elizabeth Mayer-Davis, professor and interim chair of nutrition at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health, has been awarded a $7 million grant to fund a full-scale trial to test the effectiveness of her Flexible Lifestyles (FL3X) program. The program is designed to help adolescents with Type 1 diabetes manage their disease and improve their health outcomes and quality of life. The grant was awarded by the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIH/NIDDKD). Collaborators include scientists from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Medical Center and the University of Colorado.
