Locating a school within a transit-oriented development in Middle Tennessee could deliver significant public health benefits, concludes a recently published report completed with the help of an MPH student at the Brown School, Washington University in St. Louis. The report is one of the first Health Impact Assessments (HIA) of a school siting in the nation. “This is an excellent example of the type of classroom to applied learning experience we want our students to have,” said Dr. Anne Sebert Kuhlmann, assistant dean for public health at the Brown School. “It is also a cutting-edge example of applying public health principles and techniques to urban planning.”
