Washington Adjunct Professor Vice-Chair of IOM Panel on Youth Concussions

Dr. Frederick Rivara, adjunct professor of epidemiology at the University of Washington School of Public Health, was vice chair of an expert panel that reviewed the science of sports-related concussions in youth. The Committee on Sports-Related Concussions in Youth, convened by the Institute of Medicine and National Research Council, issued a report October 30 with several recommendations for reducing injuries. Among them: more data needs to be collected on the nature of concussions; metrics should be established to better identify concussions, and more effective safety equipment should be designed.
