Students in the department of biostatistics at the University of Washington School of Public Health have been awarded numerous national and regional awards this year. PhD student Ms. Rebecca Yates Coley won first place for Best Oral Presentation and runner up for Best Written Paper at the 2013 Western North American Region of the International Biometrics Society meeting at the University of California, Los Angeles in Los Angeles, CA, PhD student Ms. Jie (Kate) Hu won the Student Travel Award at the 2013 Graybill Conference for Modern Survey Statistics at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, CO, PhD student Ms. Megan Smith won the Thomas Chalmers Student Scholarship Award at the 2013 Society for Clinical Trials annual meeting in Boston, MA, and PhD student Ms. Rui Zhang won the American Statistical Association Biopharmaceutical Section Student Paper Award at the ICSA/ISBS 2013 Joint Conference in Bethesda, MD. PhD student Mr. Arend Voorman won a David Byar Travel Award from the American Statistical Association for co-authoring a paper with Dr. Daniela Witten and Dr. Ali Shojai, both assistant professors of biostatistics, to present at the Joint Statistical Meetings in Montreal this week (August 3-8, 2013).
