The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Section of the American Public Health Association has honored Dr. Colleen Huebner, professor of Health Services at the University of Washington School of Public Health, and other members of the MCH Navigator Working Group with the 2014 “Effective Practice Award.”

The Effective Practice Award recognizes individuals or groups whose work has made a significant contribution to effective public health practice in MCH at the community, state, tribal, national, or global levels. The criteria for this award include: 1) significance of work, 2) contribution to public health practice in MCH, and 3) level of impact on the intended population.

The MCH Navigator (http://www.mchnavigator.org/) is an on-line portal to web-based education for maternal and child health professionals, students, and others working to improve the health and well-being of women, children, adolescents, and families. It is the result of an exceptional partnership among public health MCH faculty and state, federal and local MCH practitioners.

Ms. Holly Grason, associate professor in the department of population, family and reproductive health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and Ms. Laura Kavanagh, director of the Division of MCH Workforce Development, Maternal and Child Health Bureau, HRSA, will accept the award on behalf of the MCH Navigator Working Group. The award will be presented during the Martha May Eliot luncheon on Monday, November 17, at the annual meeting of the APHA in New Orleans.
