WashU Study Links Self-Rated Health, Mortality in Older Adults

Measures of Health Related Quality of Life (HRQOL) are significant predictors of short- and long-term mortality in older adults, according to new research from the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis. Researchers used data from 191,000 respondents with a mean age of 75 from cohorts of the Medicare Health Outcomes Survey. Four elements of HRQOL were analyzed: general self-rated health, physically unhealthy days, mentally unhealthy days, and days with activity limitations.
